BSEH is a state board of school education in Haryana, which was established in 1969. The head-quarters of the board are in Chandigarh. The first matriculation level (10th Class) examination was conducted in the same year.
It is the first State Board in India to conduct the middle (Matriculation) examination and to introduce the semester system of education. It is also the first Board to conduct a vocational examination, and to introduce the CCE (Continuous & Comprehensive Evaluation) system in board classes.
The BSEH has been implementing various educational reforms since its inception, with a focus on the overall improvement of educational standards. The BSEH has introduced many new educational schemes and has been instrumental in the adoption of many important education policies and schemes.
